Last Thursday 1st March was World Book Day and The Cooper School became a hive of various literary-themed activities. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, swashbuckling pirates, Jane Eyre, The Goddess Athena, plus various witches and wizards from the Harry Potter world could be seen wandering the corridors and quads as teachers donned their finest fancy dress to transform into well-known literary characters. Cole’s Book Store also visited with a pop-up stall of special World Book Day books for students to purchase with their free book tokens; quizzes and scavenger hunts took place at lunch time and the excitement and enthusiasm was strong enough to combat the assault of wintery weather!

We also held a Book Bake Off Competition where students could submit book-themed cakes. Congratulations to the prize winners Zara Wyatt (1st Place), Olivia Williamson and Jasmine Harrison (2nd Place) and Gaby Galecka (3rd Place) who have won themselves a special trip to Cole’s Book Store in the coming weeks to choose a new book. The English Department would like to thank all staff and students who contributed to a successful day celebrating the wonders of the written word.
