On the 13th of February 2017, students from The Cooper School and their mothers were invited by the Computer Science Department at Oxford University, to attend the ‘Inspire her event’.
The day combined learning computer studies and maths in a fun filled way. The activities included learning how to program a Sphero (a small tennis ball shaped robot); programming the Sphero to do a dance; a tour of Somerville College and fun activities using Sphero to explore the relationships between speed distance and time. In the afternoon the girls from The Cooper School and their Mums worked together as ‘Team Cooper’ on the team challenge to get Sphero to go through a maze without hitting anything or going outside the designated area. ‘Team Cooper’ came joint second. At the end of the day all the girls were given a ‘swag bag’ (a google goodies bag, containing a notebook, pens, hair bands, post it notes and an Android shaped stress ball).
