Entry Requirements
Criteria 1: GCSE results
The minimum entry requirements for admission to Sixth Form Studies at The Cooper School are:
5+ GCSEs at Grade 5 or above (including band 5 in English and Maths)
Grade 6 or above at GCSE in relevant subjects - please refer to specific subject entry on subject pages
Exceptional circumstances
We are aware that exceptional circumstances do sometimes affect students' grades and in mitigating circumstances we will make an offer to a student who does not achieve, or is not expected to achieve, the entry requirements. These exceptional circumstances are dealt with on an individual basis and the final decision will be made by the Head Of Sixth Form.
Criteria 2: A willingness to learn
Entrance to Sixth Form study at The Cooper School is also underpinned by the key entry requirement, 'a willingness to learn'. The Head Of Sixth Form reserves the right to refuse entry into Key Stage 5 if a student is deemed not to have met this entry requirement through displaying a negative attitude to learning in lower school.
Criteria 3: Expressing a preference
It is a requirement that all applicants indicate at interview whether Sixth Form studies at The Cooper School is their first or insurance choice. Students who indicate that Sixth Form studies at The Cooper school is not their first choice will automatically be placed on the waiting list with their position on this list determined using the same criteria as for admission of all applicants.
KS5 Behaviour for Learning Policy
If a student is failing to meet our expectations, they will undergo our sanctions as outlined in the KS5 behaviour policy. Failure to successfully respond to the sanctions agreed will result in the student being asked to leave the Sixth Form.This is at the discretion of the Head of Sixth Form.
