This course demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. You will extend your ability to create drama and theatre either in a performing or production role. You will also be required to write about drama and develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions, as well as studying plays and playwrights and will culminate in a 2.5 hour written exam exploring two play texts.
Component 1 – Theatre Workshop – 20%
Written and Practical coursework – internally marked and externally moderated.

You will perform a piece of theatre based on a reinterpretation of an extract from a play, chosen by me from a set list.

You will use the techniques and working methods of a theatre practitioner or theatre company.

You will produce a creative log of the process of 1500 words.
Component 2 – Text in Action – 40%
Practical exam for a visiting examiner.
You will create, develop and perform two pieces of theatre based on a stimulus provided by the exam board.

A devised piece using the techniques and working methods of theatre practitioner or theatre company (different to the one used in Component 1)

An extract from a text in a different style. You will also produce a process and evaluation report within one week of completing the practical work.
Component 3 – Text in Performance – 40%
Written exam – 2 hours, 30 minutes.
The exam is in three sections:
Sections A and B - You will answer short questions and an essay question as an actor, director and designer about Love and Information and Machnial.
Section C - You will be given an extract from Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time on which you will answer an essay question as an actor, director and designer. You will be given the extract 2 months before the exam but need to study the whole play.
