  • Entry requirements: GCSE Grade 6 English, Science, Maths. Alternatively, GCSE Psychology Grade 6.
  • Goes well with: Sociology, Maths, Biology and most other subjects.

Psychology is the study of the mind, behaviour and experience and this course offers a demanding but interesting opportunity to explore the scientific study of the brain and behaviour. Diverse teaching methods ensure that all learning styles are catered for. Our aim is for each student to develop both subject knowledge and confidence within the world of Psychology.

Year 1

Paper 1 (2 hours) - Social Influence, Memory, Attachment & Psychopathology.

  • Social Influence looks at how others can affect our behaviour. We look at the famous prison study as well as the 'shock' obedience study.

  • Memory focuses on how we store and retrieve information - different models of memory as well as Eyewitness Testimony are studied.

  • Attachment looks at various influences on development, such as peers, parents and others.

Paper 2 (2 hours) - Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology & Research Methods

Students will cover all approaches into Psychology including Behavioural approach, Cognitive approach and Biological approaches.

  • Psychopathology looks into definitions of abnormality, including OCD I phobias and treatments for mental disorders.

  • Research Methods will include learning about scientific processes I Data Handling and Analysis.

 

Year 2

Paper 2 - MORE DEPTH IS ADDED TO THIS PAPER; RESEARCH METHODS / BIOPSYCHOLOGY / APPROACHES.

Paper 3 (2 hours) - Topics paper
